Here on the race they place a big emphasis on identifying your giftings. Much of this experience is designed to aid us in finding the qualities god has given us to steward that we might do our part in building up the body, and step into our anointing. I think the beginning of this process is realizing that god made you for his pleasure first, then his purposes. God delights in you regardless of what you end up doing in life, we don’t need to burden ourselves with trying to be his (or his peoples) valuable asset. So before I get carried away searching far and wide for what makes me important in the body of believers, I need to remember one thing. We are all a secret treasure, sculpted and fashioned to the likings of the king, and when we begin to identify with that truth, what made us his secret treasure will also make us his secret weapon. The Journal entry below holds some related thoughts, starting with a quote from Aaron, some volunteer guy who pretty much roams around campus dropping wisdom bombs and telling people what makes them special.

“True humility is accepting what your creator says about you even if it’s more than your comfortable with”
It takes a great man to truly step into the purest essence of his creation. For one, it is far more beautiful then we are willing to admit, and should we come to grasp this divine beauty, it would be silly if we allowed it to inflame our egos and deceive our feeble minds into believing we have something in who we are to take pride in. God designed your soul just as he did the color of your hair, and a sound mind will treat it as such.
As I was transcribing this entry, I felt convicted to share that I stole that hair thing from CS Lewis and I didn’t really explain it all that well so heres the quote from screwtape to better get the message across “ man did not create themselves… their talents were given them, and they might as well be proud of the colour of their hair”
Ok. Resume
It is a state of our being, not an achievement. Thank God for who he has made you, and look upon your entire being in awestruck wonder the same way you marvel at the stars in the sky. And as you delight in the creation within yourself and without, don’t miss the signature of the grand cosmic artist, who we should all learn to be fervent admirers of if we wish to cultivate a taste for soul shuttering beauty.
What a great reminder and an encouragement to me, Sam! I like how you shared part of your journal entry in your blog post.
Really good, thought-provoking ideas here, Sam.
Sam, what you are doing sounds amazing and I’m proud of you and love you!
