Get ready for the latest here at training camp.
My squad was recently gathered together and informed by the leaders that we would be spending Christmas in Vietnam! Due to Guatemala’s ministries kind of stopping towards the end of the year we are now going to visit 5 different countries. I wasn’t expecting this change at all but I am so grateful to have the chance to visit a place that Ive always admired for their food and for those beautiful terraced rice farms (if you know you know).
I was also placed on my squads hospitality team with 3 other people. We are in charge of stuff like making sure our team is adhering to rules placed by our host, making sure the places we stay in our clean and orderly (not my specialty), organizing squad church, and lastly planning celebrations for birthdays and holidays.
Last week we also were forced to do this thing called “Man Hike” in the woods outside of campus. Its a team based workout that is pretty much intended to break you physically so that you are forced to depend entirely on your brothers and on the lord. And let me just say it was dang near impossible, but lucky for the girls they were not required to take on this task. So while we were carrying enormous 600 pound tires up gravel hills in the pouring rain, the girls got to cozy up inside and watch pride and prejudice. Life is unfair but to be honest, I definitely needed the workout, and we got compensated for our suffering in the form of Zaxby’s.
Last Tuesday me and my squad hiked up Mt. Yonah and spent the night on the summit. It was an awesome hike with tons of places to set up camp. I slept in my hammock, about 5 ft from a 500 foot cliff. It was pretty cool, it looked like a Walmart version of El Capitan. We spent the night looking at the stars and cooking hot dogs and marshmallows over a fire.
Later that week I had my birthday and received a lot of love from my fellow racers as well as a pack of Airhead Extremes. I was also forced to wear the infamous birthday sash and LED crown that are bestowed upon all who happen to have their birthday while on the race.
Lately Ive been playing a lot of soccer around here in my free time and Ive just gotten into this wierd space related board game that my friend Dom brought from Cali. Still doing mostly sessions and worship but this week we will be doing some evangelism in Georgia and next week we will be packing our bags to help with disaster relief in Kentucky so be praying for us in that. Hope that suffices for this episode of “Whats Sam Been Up To” until next time friends.
peak blog, the 600 lb tire was really brutal, especially when they made you carry it by yourself i was impressed you were able to do that
Blood, sweat, and tears on the man hike sound so much more rewarding than some chick flick, lol. You guys are awesome.
The Vietnam addition – what a cool and unexpected bonus! The man hike- love how it bonded y’all. Yonah hike- memory maker and a highlight for sure! Did Kailey tell you about Yonah Burger?
